Ready Readers
Publisher: Modern Curriculum Press
Grades: PreK-3
Introducing two new stages in the only beginning literacy program with a built-in skills and phonics curriculum. The only Little Book program that combines engaging stories with systematic phonic and phonemic awareness instruction, Ready Readers now introduces two new stages to help launch your students on a lifetime reading adventure.
Emphasize letter recognition and introduce phonemic awareness through single-word labels and exact picture-text matches, then reinforce phonemic awareness with repetition of memorable two-word phrases. Short, appealing books connect familiar objects and everyday experiences with a simple storyline that supports letter recognition and discrimination of sounds.

I have Stages ABC and 1 of 机灵狗故事乐园 (Ready Readers). Stages ABC comprises of 55 books with 26 of them introduces alphabets from A-Z. The other 29 are stories with focus on one alphabet. I think from learning vocabulary perspective, it's ok for a K1 kid. My son is also K1 and is reading Stage ABC. He reads the words with the help of the CD attached. The books also have phonetic elements.
I just flip through 1-2 books in Stage 1 and found that it's just a bit more 'difficult'.
The set is completely adopted from Pearson learning group. They are all in English and no Chinese text. The Chinese translation is provided separately in the parent's guide.
Dangdang.com has a brief introduction and you can also check the following website from Pearson for more details.
Then did you buy it? I haven't seen Stages 2&3, have you? Are they difficult?
My son is 'ok' with the Ready Readers because the book is small and thin and it's easy for him to turn over the pages to read. I played the CD while he is reading and he reads aloud the words.
Did you son pick up First Step to Read again? My son just read it once. He likes the cars but I think the book is too thick for him to read the book himself and hence he needs me to read with him so that I can 'fix' the page for him.
I like Stage 2 which is in short sentence and stage 3 is longer like “……… Tom said”. I haven’t bought it at last because I have already bought 標準英語分類讀物, and is now reading “First step to read”,親親自然學英語and “Easy to Read Level 1”. For my son, he likes the pictures of “First step” but I don’t like the tape. The tape reading sometimes is not in sequence especially at word summary.
If you want to buy 2 or 3, Countrywind is cheaper than 文星. If someone wants to buy stage ABC or 1, buy it at dangdang.com is cheaper.
