I'm a C6 and hope my plan can give you some ideas if you want to go to Hawaii one day.
We stayed in Hawaii for about 10 days, roughly 5 days in Oahu and 5 days in Maui.
In Oahu, we mainly relied on the public transport : Bus. Very convenient and could take me to all the locations I visited.
In Maui, I drove.
Locations we visited in Oahu :
1. Hanauma Bay (for diving. a very lovely beach but could be very crowded.)
2. Hiking on Diamond Head (the most famous mountain (volcano) in Oahu, always shown on the background of a Waikiki postcard. great view of Waikiki Beach and Pacific Ocean up there!)
3. Pearl Harbour
4. Waikiki Beach (nearly everyday as we stayed in a hotel there. sunset there was beautiful.)
5. Some shopping arcades (names forgot)
Locations we visited in Maui :
1. Lahaina (a nice town with relaxing atmosphere. we actually stayed in a resort nearby.)
2. Haleakala (drove up the hill. 10,000 ft I think. amazing view, very very amazing view. still remember that at the bottom of the hill, it's raining but when we drove up to the summit, we were above the clouds and so sunny up there with blue sky!!)
3. Road to Hana (so funny if you can drive. the road is long and twisted with great view all along.)
4. Monokini (a small new-moon-shape island for diving. very very special experience!)
Remarks : One bonus was that the flight we took stopped in Tokyo. Therefore, on our return journey, we further spent a few days in Tokyo for shopping and sight-seeing!!
Hawaii? Perfect! You lead me think back my sweet memories. 1st time I been there was only with my wife. 2nd time was with my wife and 2 daughters. Very very happy and relax for the whole family. Driving is very easy with GPS! I met some old US citizen and they said Maui is the most beautiful island in Hawaii. If I have chance to there again, I will definitely visit Maui, but need to save money first.
