i bought the one with call and data plan. I used AIS the most. I bought it in the airport arrival hall counter. something like 400 or 800 thb. not sure if there is cheaper offer in hk.
point to have call + data is we can call the driver if needed.
Uber is very popular in developing countries. The pricing system is clear, no need to argue.
If you found that the driver choose a longer route, you can raise this to uber and they will credit back the money to your ac ( I tried). Most of the drivers are very polite as the marking system in uber is important. In term of the communication, it is not that difficult. You can monitor the car location on map. In case of any problem, I will call the driver and ask the local ppl to help to talk with them. Never have any problem.
As the traffic may be very bad, I will check the travel time in google map to see if it is very jammed on the road. If very jammed, will choose bts.
The only down side is we need to wait for the car. Sometimes it may take your 10-15mins.
We normally will call uber when we about to go. Before you call, you can see the estimated arrival time. After you call and the driver pick your order, you will see the car location. Go only when the car is close to your place.
In case you see the car turn to other direction, call the driver (I will ask local ppl like waitress) to teach him how to come here.
I used this way in India, Vietnam and Thailand. Workable.
