I am Malaysian and live in KL before I came to HK.
We have done the following with our 2 years old daughter in KL and she really enjoyed it:
KLCC - Aquarium (smaller than Ocean Park but new), Science Museum and park
KL Zoo
Lake Garden - deer farm, butterfly farm, bird park etc (Carcosa Sri Negara is great for English afternoon tea or curry tiffin Sunday lunch)
One Utama indoor playroom
Mega Mall indoor playroom
Kuala Selangor Nature Park and fire flies place
We also been to these places with her:
Fraser's Hill - rain forest, easy hikes, hornbills, wild animals, fresh and cold air (she was less than one year old) SmokeHouse is reat for English afternoon tea
Langkawi - we stayed at Datai which has great pool, surrounded by rain forest and have a private beach - great place to see hornbills and monkeys
We intend to take her here in the future:
Sunway Lagoon
Desa Water Park
Berjaya Hill (Bukit Tinggi Resort) - Japanese garden, walking, fresh and cold air, rabbit farm, deer farm
Cameron Highland - tea plantation, farms, rain forest etc
Ipoh - caves
My daughter doesn't like heat. We always plan the activities between 8am to 11am, then go somewhere indoor to avoid the heat. Usually it will rain/storm between 3 to 4pm. We will go out again in the evening or after rain which is cold and fresh. We also put less clothes on her, put her hat on and apply sunblock and mosquito repellent if we are staying outdoor or in the jungle/zoo/parks. Always bring umbrella for sun and rain. Also, don't forget a jumper/jacket/extra clothes/blanket for indoor air-cond.
It's easier to rent a car and drive around in KL. The public transport and traffic jam in KL drive me crazy! If you are used to HK public transport, you will go crazy too!
I think Equatorial is quite near to KLCC but you need to walk a little bit.
We have stayed at KL Hilton, KL Cititel (Mega Mall) and Mandarin Oriental before. KL Hilton is next to train station/LRT station/KL Express, so it is very convenient to go to different places without taking cab or driving. Their swimming pool is quite ok but a bit windy. Cititel is next to Mega Mall, a giant shopping mall with indoor playroom which is great for kids. No swimming pool. You can take train to travel to other places but not as convenient as in HK.
Mandarin Oriental is the best! Their swimming pool is great! It is next to KLCC so you can access to the mall, park, aquarium, Science museum and LRT (like MTR in HK, but not as good) easily. The next time we go back, we will definitely choose Mandarin Oriental again.
Alternatively, you can stay at the Trader, it is next to KLCC too but without swimming pool.
Let me know if you need more info about KL or Malaysia.
i'll go there at jul with my family (1.5yr bb & 6yr)
anymore suggestion?????

Sorry, just read all your messages, didn't check this discussion for long time... sorry!
Stepsum, have you found a good hotel? Mandarin Hotel and Traders are right next to KLCC and the park. Otherwise, Nikko Hotel is about 10 mins walk to KLCC. All three hotels have LRT station and very convenient.
Taxi contacts: I used to use these two and found them reliable and good. They are quite busy and usually only do long distant (e.g. to airport) but you can try to negotiate with them. I am known as Mrs Ingram to them but I doubt whether they still remember me. After all, it was 4 years ago.
Mr Han - +6019 3377881
Mr Wong - +6016 2987336
Tingtingmum - Langkawi? MAS or Airasia or by bus. Flying I think less than one hour. Bus I am not sure.
vkzone - probably too late now to answer...
叉燒媽咪 - as usual, look after your belonging... taxi? I think4 (one in front and 3 at the back?) I don't really know as we don't take taxi very often (usually drive) sorry, can't help...
Re things to do - please read my previous post or check these links:
Renaissance is a good hotel, walking distant to LRT station and KLCC (about 15 mins) I like the Japanese buffet there but not sure whether it is still available.
I love Sarawak! Kuching is nice to visit. Bako National Park and Mulu National park are great for trekking, to see wildlife and visiting caves.
My family will move to KL soon, I would like to know a better option on transportation if I don't have a car. Is taxi reliable? I heard lots that it is not that good.
We are bringing our 2yrs old daugther there, is there any good doctor there just in case. Which area is good to stay if we are looking for a service apartment?
