本人有5歳兒子, AUTISM AND SPEECH DELAY ,一月過 SAN FRANC 插班 KINDERGARTEN , 但 SCHOOL PLACEMENT CENTER 不能提供任何 SUPPORT , 縱使我已交了所有香港 SCHOOL REPORTS, ANYWAY, 他們要我兒入 GENERAL CLASS 先,然後等學校安排 ASSESSMENT AND SUPPORT, 我所知的有 GARFIELD, JEFFERSON , SHERMAN AND LAKESHORE 有特殊班 SEPARATION CLASS FOCUS ON AUTISM 我們亦已去觀校, 想知有沒有MAMA 可以分享一下及交流, 一月將會定居,我自已沒有任何朋友, 有D傍枉!

呢個係standard procedure。一般都唔接受out of school district的assessment。outside assessment is for reference only. When you start school, school districts will have you sign an assessment plan. By law, the district has 30 days to respond. Then a psycho-Ed assessment will begin and the school has 60 days to complete all assessment. Then there is an IEP meeting to discuss placement and goals.

I don\'t live in SF but I know the CA code of education cuz I work with children with special needs. You can PM me so we can chat.

Children learn ABC and speech sounds and letters in kindergarten here, not too much to worry to have your son start.

SFUSD 校區係唔會安排到任何support，你要到埗後開學第一樣就捉住老師同校長講，要求做評估，佢地有form俾你填，係一份好長好多問題嘅form，如果有特殊老師駐校的話，好多時係會由該個老師倍你填，因為都好多嘢問，我填過無數同類forms，學校當時有班主任同specialist一邊解釋一邊幫我填，老師順便了解埋小朋友喺屋企情況，我建議你影印一份你手頭上嘅評估資料做attachment，香港做嘅評估報告校區唔會作準，但會參考，我自己小朋友果份係三藩市呢邊兒童醫院做，有成十幾廿頁紙，係標準自閉症評估格式，包括語言、感統等共5個範疇。

正如lottieclee所講，校區收到申請，30內要回覆，60日內完成評估，你1月插班，即刻同校長及班主任講要申請，唔好等，係要經學校申請至得，placement center係做唔到D咩，不過佢應該可以講俾你聽應該點做。

你有心理準備SFUSD可以提供嘅係有限，除非係好嚴重需要去讀特殊班，否則係會讀普通general education class再加一對一時間，語言同學習遲緩係普遍有support，由校區提供導師去學校安排時間做指導，時間可以係每日45分鐘到一星期一次不等，睇學生需要，每年都有一次叫IEP嘅會議，包括家長、當年班主任、校長、specialist(s)，一齊去訂立學生學習目標，第二年作檢討同調整，家長同意後就著手安排實行，每三年作一次大檢討IEP，睇下小朋友仲有冇需要繼續接受support，如評估後覺得小朋友已唔符合資格的話會close IEP file 。

如有需要的話，呢個IEP 係會一直跟住小朋友由小學上中學上高中，如小朋友符合資格，校區係要一直提供support，只不過SFUSD資源有限，而家效定係嚴重個案就去特定學校嘅day school，即全班都係特殊需要兒童，就係你話果種，但真係唔係個個入讀得，入唔到其實係好事嚟，即係程度唔嚴重。幾年前開始，所有學校有需要學生都會由校區安排導師去學校提供指導，但唔係間間學校都有全職導師日日駐校，有D係幾間學校share一個。另外，如有感統問題的話，校區係冇support，只能你自己睇下保險包唔包。

你或先生有工作嗎？睇清楚醫療保險會唔會包括自閉support services，有的話去要求兒科醫生轉介做評估，然後睇下保險包咩嘅therapy，三藩市最好最出名又最搶手就係CPMC旗下屬下嘅Kalmanovitz Child Development Center，有語言治療、統感、心理治療、行為治療等，如果要自掏腰包係二三百蚊一堂，有保險包就最好，唔係都幾重皮，我個人覺得佢提供嘅social group好有用，但要排隊輪候同試堂合格至收，最多可以上兩年，之後就要讓番個位出嚟再排過隊。

我住三藩市，仔女讀呢度公校，我仔係自閉譜系，有社交問題（主要因為語言表達唔好）同統感問題，你有問題可以隨時PM我，我略知一二，唔知嘅都可以幫你問我仔嘅導師。

The school placement center had the meeting and after they reviewed my son's report and they suggested to put him in general class and follow by the school arrangement. my concern is my son may fall into separation class after they see him in person as he is in special ed school in hk ( private and english medium) and we can really see his improvment in more struture and his class is 2 teachers: 6 puipls setting. So I dont kno the standard and requirment in US. only I know that is my son can not learn in a big group.

can you share with me more on the schools which schools you think have better support for ASD children ? Any ST, OT and ABA center that you know of?

They will initially place him in gen Ed, then wait for testing and placement. They would place according to the psycho-Ed eval. In general, there are 34 kids in a gen Ed classroom with one teacher and you are lucky if the teacher has a general classroom aid.

There is SDC-mild to moderate as well but it is not going to be as small as 6:2 student to teacher ratio. A FAPE for IEP is to offer the least restrictive environment for the student to excel academically. All therapy and support services is based on academic needs. Don\'t expect the school district to give you a ton of ABA, SLP and OT. Like Rose said, those should be through your health insurance. The school would also tell you whether they observe aut-like behavior in the academic setting. You would still need to go through a psycho-neurologist to obtain a diagnosis of ASD. And just to give you a heads-up. The wait list to see a neurologist that specializes in ASD is 12-18 months. You should also search whether there is a Regional Center or a PEERS program in your area to help you out initially, until you find settle down.

Also, public kindergarten is only for 3-4 hours a day. There isn\'t a lot academically. If I were you, I would spend a lot of time volunteering in the classroom, so at least you know that you are there to help, if needed.

That's my plan to volunteer in the school or in the class. My son is definitely need support if place him in a big group otherwise he just walk around and space out.
