Hi All,
I know my son got VSD (~3-4mm) when he was 4 days old. I understand the feeling of “情天霹靂,世界末日一樣”. I cried for the whole morning and can’t talk. I can’t share with others except my hubby as I don’t know how to tell other why my baby got such disease. I was told by Maurice Leung (the Pd) that the chance for self recovery is very, very low since the “hole” is very near to the valves. He may need operation at age of 6 and it will be a major operation which needs to cut the thoracic cage. I kept on consult Maurice Leung and Grantham Hospital and I understood from them that the sounds got lighter as time goes by but none of them told me exactly what happened.
Miracle happened to my son in 2003 Christmas when I took him for Echo checking. I was told that the hole was smaller which just like a crack between the ventricles. I cried again (since I was so happy) when I heard it. My son is 2y7m now and keeps on checking periodically. He is a bit slim and just weight ~ 30lb.
Special thanks to Honeybabybee for setting up this topic so that we can share.
Heddy, for yr sister’s case, I suggest ur sister should seek for further doctor opinion b4 making up any decision. I would recommend Maurice Leung cos he is the #1 in HK for children heart disease.
Nglee, Maurice Leung said the chance for the second one getting the same disease is higher if the first one got it. However, for my case, my little girl has no problem at all.
You are so lucky! I hope my second baby will be a healthy one too!
Could you please give me (through pm or email) the phone number and consultancy time of Maurice Leung? thanks!
