My son currently 5.5yrs old (born in Sept) who is study Year 1 in HK. We are planning to move to OZ in summer time next year. I should apply Year 1 or Year 2 for him? For the public school application, can I make an application before we arrive to OZ? Or I need an address prove for the catchment zone?
Please help. Thx!

以上網址是Queensland 教育局的官方網站, 裏面有計算機計算入學年齡.
你小朋友照計明年中會讀1年級3rd term.

官校一般要有proof of residency, age and address. 所以多數都係來到澳洲先報讀, 只要有住址證明, 屬catchment area, 必收.

What I did last time was I sent email to the principal of the school, told them I would like to come to their school and will be living within their catchment area. When I came with my kids, they already knew who am I.

咁即係話我住得嗰個catchment, 佢就一定要收我，而無話好似香港咁無位架？！
另，如果佢下年喺香港去時係讀完Yr 2先去，咁係咪都要讀Yr 1嘅3rd term呢？咪可能悶c佢？

如果住係catchment area裏面, 必收, 學校收多咗學生, 會加老師. 呢個係我係阿仔學校見到既情況. 所以官校的老師會轉來轉去, 不過都只係一年轉一次, 好少中途轉. 年中不停有學生入, 亦有學生走.
妳睇返個Queensland教育局網站的計算機, 就知小朋友邊一年讀幾年級.
假設小朋友2005年9月出生, 2012年7月在澳洲queensland讀year 1 3rd term.

其它states係咪一樣, 我唔清楚, 最好上佢地既website睇睇.

若想入讀其它year level, 咁真的要見校長, 同佢傾傾啦.

Yes, within catchment area have to accept. Anyway each class only 20-25 students, so you better let them aware of you will coming otherwise they will give the spare seat to ppls out of the catchment area....

The age cut off date is 30 June , so yes need to study Yr 1 in 2012.

Don't worry about boring.... they need to learn new environment, also here the level is much lower than hk....

All above is referring to QLD.... other state I am not sure.
